Natural / homemade / cheap high potash feeds for fruiting plants

I'm just wondering if anyone has any tips for making homemade, natural potash feed for fruiting plants and vegetables. I know banana skins and wood ash is high in potassium. Would soaking wood ash and/or banana skins in water make a viable and healthy feed? Or simply directly mulching with dried banana skins or wood ash? And I've heard that deep-rooted perennial weed roots like comfrey, alkanet and dandelion can be soaked to create a high potash fertiliser? Does anyone have any experience of this or any advice? I basically want to make a natural and ideally free alternative to Tomorite.
